About Me:
My name is Llewellyn Jones, and I’m a proud Deaf Interpreter, Auslan tutor, and mentor with over 22 years of experience working across a wide range of professional settings—including medical, health, legal, education, government, community, arts, and more.
My work spans both interpreting and Auslan education, offering a rare and valuable blend of hands-on experience, cultural insight, and linguistic depth.
As both a professional interpreter and a Deaf consumer who regularly works with interpreters, I bring a dual perspective that gives my mentoring depth and authenticity.
I understand what makes interpreting truly effective—from both sides of the experience. I know what it feels like when an interpreter empowers communication—and when it falls short. That insight is what drives my passion for mentoring others.
I have also spent years teaching and tutoring Auslan to learners at all levels—from complete beginners to advanced students preparing for NAATI certification.
I specialise in linguistic analysis of Auslan, helping students and interpreters explore Auslan not just as a language, but as a living, breathing form of cultural expression.
My sessions often include deep dives into visual grammar, spatial referencing, depicting signs, role-shift, and bilingual fluency—skills that are essential for professional-level interpreting.
Whether I’m mentoring a student through the Interpreter Shadowing Program or offering one-on-one Auslan coaching, I create a space that is respectful, practical, and empowering.
I guide you through real-world challenges, unpack Auslan-English transitions, give you strategies to improve expressive and receptive skills, and help you build confidence in your interpreting journey.
I offer both online and in-person mentoring, and I’m open to being shadowed in real-life appointments (GP visits, education settings, community events, etc.), provided the environment is appropriate and accessible.
