This powerful, eye-opening panel brings together lived experience and professional expertise to unpack what access really looks like behind prison walls.

Learn from Chelsea (Casper) Campbell, a Deaf former prisoner, as she courageously shares her firsthand experience of communication barriers in custody. Gain rare insight from Jennifer McLaughlan, prison social worker and Auslan interpreter, on prison systems, daily life, and the realities of communication behind bars.

Two more panelists, a Deaf Interpreter and a Hearing Interpreter with prison interpreting experience, will offer practical strategies, real-world tips, and perspectives you won’t find in textbooks.

Hosted by AIMS Director Alana Wiekart, Certified Interpreter with 20+ years’ experience who has interpreted across prisons in QLD, NSW, and WA, the session concludes with a live Q&A.
